(Lindenwold, NJ) - The Freeholder Board-sponsored electronics recycling collection will now accept older-style televisions and computer monitors that contain cathode ray tubes (CRTs) and all rear projection televisions.

“The Freeholder Board was able to negotiate with a company that works with electronic manufacturers to accept and recycle televisions from Camden County residents,” said Freeholder Jeff Nash, liaison to the Camden County Division of Environmental Affairs. “I know that a lot of residents had difficulty finding proper methods of disposal for their older televisions. They can now responsibly discard CRTs at our electronics recycling collection, and the best part is that these items can still be dropped off for free.”

The next drive-through household Electronics Recycling Collection will take place on Saturday, April 1. Drop off your outdated and unused items from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Camden County Public Works Complex, 2311 Egg Harbor Road in Lindenwold.

For information on disposal of these unaccepted items, please contact the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection at (609) 984-3438. You can also contact your local electronics retailer for information on their individual collection guidelines, or donate working equipment to Goodwill.

Flat panel TVs and monitors will continue to be accepted at no charge, along with items such as computers, keyboards, VCRs, scanners, DVD players, tape players, stereo equipment, typewriters, printers, laptops, modems, telecommunication equipment, fax machines, radios, answering machines and telephones.

“This is the perfect opportunity for residents to properly dispose of unwanted electronic equipment,” Nash said. “Recycling these items will prevent harmful materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium from being released into the environment.”

Camden County’s drive-through program provides one of the easiest and most convenient ways for all Camden County residents to chip in when it comes to creating a better environment for us all. It is a priority of the Freeholder Board to provide this service to residents. By disposing of this material properly we keep it out of our waste stream and prevent it from making its way to our waterways.

“With such rapid advancements in technology, I’m sure there are residents out there with electronics piling up – multiple computers or phones for example,” Nash said. “If you bring those electronics to this free event, everything will either be refurbished for future use or recycled to help protect the environment.”
